I just left Sage - our 10 year old black lab. Had to put her to sleep this morning. Between the cancer and arthritis, she has been so sad and tired. She stopped eating about 4 days ago... she weighed half of her normal weight...
Drake died in his sleep earlier this year. It could have been cancer for him too - he was skin and bones at age 14. We just couldn't bring ourselves to put him down - but we didn't want to make that same mistake with Sage. They were both in such miserable states at the end. Both Drake and Sage were such loyal companions - and mates too. Ella (the offspring of Drake and Sage) our yellow lab is 7 yrs old and our only hunting dog left. She's kind of lonely there in the backyard without mom and dad around...
We will miss Sage and Drake so much - Sage was so eager to please, gentle and adoring. Love you girl!
